Phat pants are often worn with braces that are not designed to be worn over the shoulders. They hang loosely on the pants from the waist, and are usually brightly colored webbing with a reflective strip sewn in the middle. Usually, the ring at the back is made of a heavy metal, which helps the braces to swing out in an arc around the person when spinning. These pants are usually confused with hammer pants worn by many rappers.
